Colonel Phil Brooks is from Fayetteville, Tennessee and was commissioned through Army ROTC. His education includes a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Memphis and a Master of Arts and Science from the Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, KS.
Colonel Brooks served in Baumholder, Germany from 1994 to 1997 and deployed to Bosnia for Operation Joint Endeavor. Upon completion of the Field Artillery Captain’s Career Course, he was assigned to Fort Benning, Georgia where he served as a Human Resources Officer, Fire Support Officer and Commander from 1997 to 2001. He then served as an Aviation Brigade Fire Support, Cannon Battery, and Field Artillery Battalion Tactical Operations Center Trainer at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, CA from 2001 to 2004. He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom three times, serving as Executive Officer to the Commanding General, Civilian Police Assistance Training Team, Executive Officer to the Commanding General, Multinational Division-Baghdad, Battalion Operations Officer, and as the Brigade Executive Officer in Mosul, Iraq. He has commanded battalions in both Iraq and Afghanistan and served as the Deputy Chief of Staff in Regional Command East.
Colonel Brooks’ military schooling includes the Field Artillery Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Airborne School, Combined Arms Services Staff School, Joint Firepower Control Course, Command and General Staff College, and Joint Forces Staff College.
Colonel Brooks’ awards and decorations include four Bronze Star Medals, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, five Meritorious Service Medals, Joint Service Commendation Medal, seven Army Commendation Medals , three Army Achievement Medals, the Combat Action Badge, the Parachutist Badge, and multiple Campaign Ribbons.
Colonel Brooks is the son of the former Winston and Carolyn Brooks of Fayetteville, Tennessee and proud husband of the former Lori West, also of Fayetteville, Tennessee, and father of sixteen-year-old son, Wes, and thirteen-year-old daughter, Amelia.
