The Bush School of Government & Public Service and School of Public Health work together to process applications and admit students into the Master of International Affairs-Master of Public Health (MIA-MPH) Combined Degree for each fall semester. We admit students once per year, for fall entry only.
Applicants submit applications to both programs; a SOPHAS application for the MPH degree and an internal MIA application. Both applications open in August (the year prior to entry) and close February 1. The priority funding deadline for the MIA portion of the program is typically in mid-December. Completed applications (those not missing any materials) are reviewed by the MIA Admissions Committee in late January to determine who is invited to the second stage of the MIA application process; interviews.
Those selected to interview with MIA faculty/staff are notified via email in early February and are asked to schedule an interview with two different faculty and/or staff members to continue in the MIA admissions process. Applicants are encouraged to attend and complete their interviews during Interview Conference Weekend. However, for those unable to attend Interview Conference Weekend, alternative interviews will be scheduled and completed via Zoom throughout the month of February.
Once applicants have all been interviewed, the MIA Admissions and Scholarship Committee meet in early March to make final admissions and scholarship decisions for those admitted to the MIA portion of the program. The Bush School’s Admissions Office and the School of Public Health Admissions Office work together to notify applicants of their final admissions decision and for the MIA portion, their scholarship award.
If an applicant is admitted to both programs, they will receive an offer letter for the MIA-MPH Combined Degree stating the scholarship they’ve been awarded for the MIA portion of the program. It is possible for an applicant to be admitted to one program, but not the other. In that case, the student will receive an offer letter from the program they were admitted to and has the choice to accept their offer of admission into only that program.
Applicants offered admission have until April 15 to accept or decline their offer(s). Those who accept their offer of admission into the MIA-MPH combined degree are then provided instructions and next steps for enrolling in classes, meeting their classmates, and so on. Fall classes begin in mid-August with a required MPH New Student Orientation the week prior to the start of the fall semester. In the fall of the student’s second year, the student is required to attend the Bush School’s MIA New Student Orientation (typically scheduled for the week prior to the fall semester) to prepare for spring entry into the MIA portion of the program.
