The Bachelor’s in Public Service and Administration degree program prepares students for impactful careers in government and nonprofit service. Students learn the keys to succeeding in public service: how to lead, make wise decisions, synthesize information, analyze policy, conduct research and manage budgets, among other skills. The Bachelor’s in Public Service and Administration is offered as a B.A. or B.S. Students graduating with a B.A. enter the workforce ready for positions such as grant writing, parks supervision, project management and fundraising. The degree emphasizes language proficiency, reflecting the global nature of public service. The B.S. prepares graduates for jobs in research, policy coordination and many types of analysis, including budget, management and administrative. Through classes in science or analytic methods, they learn the technical skill to meet the public sector’s needs.
In Texas alone, there are more than 1.25 million public and nonprofit sector jobs. Many require at least a bachelor’s degree. Yet each year the state’s college and universities produce only a few hundred people with degrees directly related to public service, according to National Center for Education Statistics data – meaning organizations must often choose among candidates with a steep learning curve. With a Bachelor’s in Public Service and Administration, a graduate enters the job market ready to excel from day one.
