A new issue of The Takeaway explores the concerns of public housing and its possible effects of students’ test scores.
COLLEGE STATION, TX (October 18) – Despite the best intentions, public housing has long been criticized for placing children in neighborhoods of concentrated poverty. Much of the existing evidence focuses on children who leave public housing located in undesirable neighborhoods. The authors of a recent issue of The Takeaway examine children who enter New York City public housing, located across a wide array of neighborhoods, and find positive effects on test scores. The publication, “The Impact of Public Housing on Children’s Academic Outcomes,” describes research findings of the authors, Jeehee Han, Assistant Professor at the Bush School at Texas A&M University, and Amy Ellen Schwartz, Professor of Public Administration at The University of Delaware.
The Takeaway is a publication of the Mosbacher Institute for Trade, Economics, and Public Policy at the Bush School of Government & Public Service at Texas A&M University.
