
Pete McCanna, Chief Executive Officer of Baylor Scott & White Health, will receive the 2025 McLane Leadership in Business Award.
With nearly 35 years of experience in healthcare leadership and consulting, Pete McCanna has been a driving force behind transformative improvements in hospital systems across the country. As Chief Executive Officer of Baylor Scott & White Health, the largest not-for-profit health system in Texas, McCanna leads an integrated delivery network that spans 51 hospitals and more than 1,200 access points, providing innovative care solutions to millions across the state. On Thursday, September 4, McCanna will receive the 2025 McLane Leadership in Business Award at the Bush School of Government & Public Service, where he will also speak to students and the public about his career, leadership and vision for the future of healthcare.
Bestowed annually by the Bush School’s Mosbacher Institute for Trade, Economics, and Public Policy and the George & Barbara Bush Foundation, the award recognizes a prominent individual for outstanding contributions in business and public service. The event will occur in the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2025. The program is open to the public, but registration is required by Wednesday, September 3. Before becoming CEO, McCanna served as president of Baylor Scott & White Health, where he played a pivotal role in advancing clinical alignment, expanding academic partnerships and accelerating the system’s digital health transformation through platforms such as MyBSWHealth. Under his leadership, the organization has reimagined care delivery by integrating virtual and in-home services into its patient offerings.
Prior to his tenure at Baylor Scott & White, McCanna held executive roles at leading institutions including Northwestern Medicine, where he served as executive vice president and COO, and Presbyterian Healthcare Services in New Mexico, where he was CFO. His leadership at Northwestern helped drive significant growth while maintaining the health system’s AA+ bond rating and surpassing benchmarks in quality, patient experience and employee engagement.
A respected voice in healthcare governance, McCanna currently serves on the boards of University of Michigan Health, the Texas Hospital Association and Catholic Extension. He holds a master’s degree from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin and a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Michigan.
