ISTPP Research Fellow Hyunseok Hwang leads a study, “Socially Equitable Public Service Provision: Towards Inclusive Coproduction of Public Infrastructure,” that explores inclusive coproduction in public infrastructure, emphasizing citizen participation in planning and investment to build resilience against climate challenges. Survey data from Texas show that wealthier, more educated citizens participate more in coproduction, while marginalized groups face barriers. This study also suggests that social equity could be enhanced by promoting broader citizen engagement and by involving nonprofit organizations to represent under-resourced communities. Policy recommendations include integrating diverse voices in coproduction to ensure fair distribution of public infrastructure benefits and foster a more socially equitable service provision.
