On Thursday, October 10, and Friday, October 11, the European Union Center at The Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University hosted the Global Health Challenges Conference. The conference brought together ten speakers from around the world to discuss issues related to health policymaking.
Improving health outcomes is a challenge for scientists around the world. Part of that challenge lies in designing effective health policies. While each region of the globe is unique, many scientists and researchers around the world find themselves trying to resolve common problems. The goal of the Global Health Challenges Conference was to bring researchers together to discuss those common problems.
“Health issues are becoming a global challenge. The European Union Center with support from Texas A&M Health and the Bush School, brought together researchers from across the nation and globe to discuss questions about health access, equity, and service,” said European Union Center Director Christine Lipsmeyer, “With research from social scientists and health scholars, the event offered insights into not just common issues, but also possible solutions.”
Four policy challenges were highlighted throughout the conference: access, mental health, health inequality, and vaccinations. Among the ten speakers were three from Texas A&M including Yolanda and Jimmy W. Janacek ’65 Health Policy Professor at The Bush School, Laura Dague; Executive Director of the Texas A&M Telehealth Institute, Carly McCord; and Executive Director of the Institute for Healthcare Access at Texas A&M, Keegan Warren.
