Phil Gentile joined the Bush School of Government and Public Service in 2020 and teaches the
course he authored on Defense Intelligence at the Texas A&M Washington, DC, Teaching Site
Prior to this, Professor Gentile completed a 30-year Marine Corps Career with extensive intelligence experience spanning the tactical, operational, service and joint intelligence levels. He commanded at the platoon, company, and Intelligence Battalion levels and led the Marine
Corps Intelligence Activity. Some of his staff assignments include Chief of Staff to the Director of Marine Corps Intelligence; Senior Military Assistant to the Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence; Deputy Intelligence Chief Multi-National Forces West in al Anbar, Iraq; Intelligence Chief, 1st Marine Division; and Intelligence Chief to the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, Special Operations Capable. Following his retirement from the Marine Corps, he worked for ten years in support of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Earth Science from The Pennsylvania State University and is a graduate of DIA’s Post Graduate Intelligence Program. He earned Master’s degrees from both the Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and The Johns-Hopkins University, School of Advanced International Studies.
