Dr. John D. Robertson specializes in comparative politics and the politics of advanced industrial countries, with regional specialization in Europe. He was a Senior Fulbright Professor of Political Science and Senior Research Fellow, Institute for Labor Law and Labor Relations in the European Community, at the University of Trier, West Germany (1988-1989); NATO Senior Research Fellow for the Study of Democratic Institutions, 1990-1991; and Visiting Professor, University of Linz, Austria, Institute for International Management Studies (1991).
Dr. Robertson has been a member of the editorial boards of Journal of Politics, American Journal of Political Science, Scandinavian Journal of Development Alternatives, and Policy Studies Journal. He is an Academic Associate of the Atlantic Council of the United States; secretary-treasurer and vice-president of the International Studies Association/Southwest, and vice-president and program chair of the Southwest Political Science Association.
Dr. Robertson’s current research focuses on changing conceptions of citizenship and democratic ideals within post-cold war Europe.
Professor Robertson has authored or co-authored numerous articles in leading journals, including American Political Science Review, American Journal of Political Science, Journal of Politics, Comparative Political Studies, International Studies Quarterly, International Political Science Review, Social Science Quarterly, Journal of Theoretical Politics, and German Politics, among others. He has also contributed chapters to a number of edited volumes, and is the co-author of Comparative Analysis of Nations: Quantitative Approaches (Westview, 2002) and co-editor of (with Winand Gellner) The Berlin Republic: German Unification and a Decade of Changes, and (with Michael Meimeth and Susanne Talmon) Integration and Indentität in Einwanderungsgesellschaften: Herausfoderungen und Transatlantic Antoworten (Nomos, 2008).
