The Bush School of Government and Public Service’s Mosbacher Institute for Trade, Economics, and Public Policy will host an in-depth public conversation Wednesday, March 25, on one of Texas’ most pressing challenges, meeting the state’s growing demand for electricity. The event, titled “Powering Texas – Challenges and Opportunities,” will feature Bill Flores, chair of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) board of directors, who will explore how the state’s population growth, economic expansion and data centers are driving unprecedented increases in electricity demand.

The evening will begin with a reception at 5 p.m., followed by the program at 5:30 p.m. The event will take place at the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center, 1002 George Bush Drive West, in College Station. The event is free and open to the public.
Flores is a business leader, former U.S. congressman and public policy advocate who has more than 20 years of experience in senior executive roles across both public and private enterprises. As the representative for the 17th Congressional District of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2011-21, Flores served on the Energy and Commerce Committee, Budget Committee, Natural Resources Committee and Veterans’ Affairs Committee. In addition to his work with ERCOT, Flores currently serves as board chair of Nauticus Robotics, director of CO2 Energy Transition Corp., trustee of Houston Christian University and investment chair of the Congressional Hispanic.
Drawing from these experiences, Flores will address how Texas is responding to the
increasing demand for electricity through long-term planning, infrastructure investment
and technological innovation. He will share insights about the policy and strategic
choices that are necessary to maintain grid reliability and support the state’s continued
leadership in energy innovation.
