The Bush School of Government & Public Service at Texas A&M University offers its graduate students both leadership and career development support. These same workshops can be applied to small groups of AmeriCorps volunteers for professional development opportunities. Sessions typically last one hour and are offered online via Zoom. LEADERSHIP – The Bush School Leadership Program staff present teamwork, time and stress management, and various personal growth workshops that can help young professionals be mindful in a professional environment. Most workshops have no cost. However, presentations that include assessments (Myers-Briggs, Clifton Strengths) have per person costs your organization will have to cover.

This workshop will help provide insight into your everyday communication with others. The knowledge learned will help you to understand what drives your behavior and the behavior of others. Through an assessment, interactive activities, and an engaging presentation, participants will identify their own personal communication style, learn how to identify the styles of others and discover how to improve their everyday interactions.
From Resolutions to Results: One Word That Matters
Do you start the New Year with big resolutions only to forget them by February? The One Word approach offers a refreshing alternative – simplify your life and work by focusing on just one meaningful word for the entire year. By living out this single word, you’ll discover a renewed sense of clarity, purpose, and direction. In this workshop, you’ll explore thoughtful questions and guided reflections to help uncover your word for the year.
Networking for Introverts
Networking can be stressful for anyone…but especially for those of you with preferences for introversion. This session will provide you with some advice and tips for successfully navigating the daunting task of networking. Anyone can attend this session but it’s especially helpful for those with preferences for introversion.

Exploring Personality Types: Myers-Briggs (MBTI) Introductory Workshop
The MBTI is the most widely utilized personality inventory in the world and provides a picture of a person’s personality type. After completing a brief assessment, your personality is divided into four different elements. These four elements are the main aspects of the Myers-Briggs personality type model. Combinations of your preferences results in 16 personality types. The purpose of this session will be for participants to have a greater understanding and self-awareness of their individual type and how that influences how they communicate and work in teams. Approximately a week before the workshop, you will be emailed instructions for completing the MBTI. Cost is approximately $90/person You must complete the assessment prior to the workshop date you are attending.

Can you imagine what the world would look like if we spent more time focusing on what we are naturally good at instead of trying to fix everything that’s wrong? CliftonStrengths is a development program that will help you identify and develop your talents and strengths. You must complete an online assessment (CliftonStrengths) prior to the workshop and you should set aside approximately 45 minutes to complete the assessment. ** Cost is approximately $50/person You must complete the assessment prior to the workshop date you are attending.

You have taken the Strengths assessment and have your “top 5”. But what can you do with your Strengths? This workshop will provide you with tips for using the Strengths in the job search, on your resume, and how to talk about them in interviews. ** This workshop builds on the CliftonStrengths assessment.

Federal Hiring and Resumes
Do you have questions about building your Federal Resume, how to search USAJobs, and what different occupational groups, families, and series you should be searching? This workshop will look at how to format and create your federal resume, how you can tailor your USAJobs profile to help you search for positions and pathways, and how the federal hiring process works.
Resume and Cover Letters Refresher
Has it been a while since you’ve written a Resume or Cover Letter, and you need a refresher on formatting and what to include? This workshop will cover resume and cover letter tips and tricks about what to include, when, and how to give reviewers what they want to see. We will also briefly discuss the difference between CVs and Resumes. Refreshers will be a 30-minute overview of content & a 30-minute Q&A.

Career Mapping and Application Insights
This workshop helps participants chart a path to their desired career goals. It involves brainstorming, mapping out potential career paths, conducting a S.W.O.T analysis, and gaining job search insights.
Interviewing
This workshop focuses on developing key interviewing skills to boost confidence and professionalism. It covers self-preparation, researching the company, verbal and non-verbal communication, STAR stories, commonly asked questions, and following up after the interview.
The LinkedIn workshop teaches participants how to optimize their LinkedIn profiles for job searching and professional networking. It covers the different parts of your profile, tips and tricks for visibility, crafting purposeful headlines, signaling interest, reaching out to connections, and utilizing LinkedIn Learning.
Networking
This workshop emphasizes the importance of relationship-building rather than traditional networking. Participants learn tips and tricks for networking in various situations, including strategies for initiating conversations, the importance of referrals, avoiding negative networking, being respectful, creating an elevator pitch, and questions to ask in networking situations.
Leveraging AI in Job & Internships
This workshop focuses on how AI can be a powerful tool in your job and internship search. Participants learn strategies and practices to effectively use AI for finding opportunities, enhancing resumes, and networking.
