Meet Javier Díaz, a Master of Public Service and Administration student at the Bush School. Javier was inspired by President George H.W. Bush and his grandfather’s commitment to public service. He believes in the power of young individuals to enhance government and public services in Mexico.
Tell Us About Yourself.
My name is Javier Díaz. I’m a Master of Public Service Administration student in the Public Management track. Prior to enrolling at the Bush School, I pursue a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration a Universidad de las Amerícas Puebla in Mexico. After my undergrad studies, I managed to create a blockchain technology consulting company specializing in crypto mining, as well as working as a volunteer in several public service positions. From a social service program providing hydric education from elementary to middle school through the San Andrés, San Andrés Chohula City Hall of Puebla, to public health programs like providing logistic support to one of the largest temporary COVID-19 vaccination centers in Texas.
Why Did You Choose The Bush School?
I chose the Bush School because I was inspired by President Bush’s legacy and believe that public service is a noble calling. I first met President Bush here at the Bush School when I was six years old. My grandfather, also a proud Aggie, received an award from him for his devotion to public service and to the Texas A&M community. All of his experiences inspired me early in my life on the importance of selfless service to others. Bush School itself will help shape your professional life in alignment with your values and passions for serving.
What Advice Would You Give a Younger Version of Yourself Applying to the Bush School?
For me personally, the Bush School has helped me in many aspects of my personal, professional, and academic life. It has helped me strengthen my moral values, introduced me to extremely valuable people, provided me various research experiences, and also gave me the opportunity to have an internship at the Mexican Embassy in the United States. Without a doubt, applying to this magnificent university is one of the best decisions you can ever make in your life.
What Inspired You to Choose a Career in Public Service?
The real reason why I decided to pursue a career in public service is the lack of values in public positions in my country. Mexico has many hardworking, available people who do not deserve the quality of public servants that currently exist. I believe that as young people it is our responsibility to work towards creating a better quality in our government and providing efficient services that benefit our country. My message to those who are currently applying or considering applying to the Bush School is that they are likely making one of the best decisions of their lives. It doesn’t really matter if we don’t know specifically which government institution we want to serve. As long as we have the feeling of selfless service, it is more than enough to belong here.
