O'Donnell Grant Program — Criteria and Procedures for Grants

The Peter and Edith O'Donnell Grant Program is administered by the Scowcroft Institute of International Affairs.

Funds are awarded for the sole purpose of helping to defray living, travel, and related expenses incurred while conducting research at the George Bush Presidential Library.

Applicants should submit electronically the following items as a single .pdf document: a research proposal detailing the nature and scope of their research project, a curriculum vita, the names and institutions of three references, and a budget outlining the amount needed for travel, lodging, and any other research expenses. The document's name should contain the name of the applicant.

Each application is evaluated by the Library archival staff to ascertain that there is material at the Library appropriate for the research topic. A panel of scholars and administrators from the Scowcroft Institute and the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum reviews the applications and decides on funding and funding levels.

Each applicant receives a letter informing them of the panel's decision. Grantees are informed that the use of their grants is to occur within a year of their award letter. Grantees are issued two checks. One half of the approved funds will be provided in order to assist with travel to the Library. The other half will be issued to the researcher during their research trip.

Upon conclusion of the research, grantees are requested to submit a brief report on their research to the Scowcroft Institute and two copies of any publications resulting from their research. The publications will be placed in the George Bush Presidential Library.
