Our Dual Mission
The Institute for Science, Technology and Public Policy (ISTPP) bridges the gap between scientific innovation and effective public policy. Through interdisciplinary research and stakeholder engagement, ISTPP helps shape policy solutions that are both scientifically informed and publicly acceptable. The Institute also provides hands-on research experience for students preparing to become future leaders in policy and academia.
ISTPP exists for two reasons:
- The scholarly examination of public policy issues
- The communication of research based knowledge to decision makers and the public

Gene Drive Applications to Agriculture in Texas
The fundamental objective of the Gene Drive project is to assess the conditions for public and stakeholder engagement concerning the potential research, development, and use of gene drive technology in the management of agricultural pests in order to inform appropriate policy responses to gene drive in agriculture.
