Dr. Mallory E. Compton joined the faculty of the Department of Public Service and Administration as an Assistant Professor in Fall 2019. Dr. Compton most recently held the position of Post-Doctoral Researcher at Utrecht University in the Netherlands, working on the Project for Successful Public Governance.
Dr. Compton earned her bachelor’s degree with a double major in Political Science and Economics at Texas A&M, graduating summa cum laude in 2008, with a Certificate in European Union Politics, Foundation Honors, and University honors. She received her Master of Public Administration degree from the London School of Economics in 2010, and subsequently returned to Texas A&M to earn her Ph.D. in Political Science, in 2016. Following her doctoral studies, Dr. Compton held the Carlos Cantu Post-Doctoral Fellowship, as part of the Department’s Project for Equity, Representation and Governance.
Dr. Compton’s research and teaching interests include bureaucracy and public governance, public policy, comparative political economy and social welfare policy. Her writings have been published in a range of journals including the Journal of Politics, State Politics and Policy Quarterly, the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Business and Management, Public Administration, and Public Management Review. Her book entitled Great Policy Successes: How Governments Get It Right in a Big Way at Least Some of the Time, co-edited with Dr. Paul 't Hart, was published by Oxford University Press. Another book, Unweaving a Nation's Fabric: The Dual Face of Social Capital in American Governance, co-authored with Dr. Kenneth J. Meier, is in progress.
