Our alumni mentoring initiative continues to grow as a powerful way to connect current students with the real-world experiences of those who once sat in the same classrooms. Conversations with Former Students help undergraduates better understand how political science training translates into careers across public service, the private sector, and beyond. Through candid discussions about career paths, challenges, and professional decision-making, mentors provide insight that complements academic learning and helps students approach life after graduation with confidence.
The program also offers Former Students a meaningful way to stay connected to the department while investing in the success of today’s students. Mentoring reflects the spirit of Selfless Service by allowing alumni to share their time and expertise in ways that have a direct, lasting impact. We are pleased to report that 15 alumni have already volunteered as mentors, and the department is currently working to match them with undergraduate students. As interest from students continues to grow, additional mentors will allow us to expand these opportunities even further.
Former Students who are interested in serving as mentors are encouraged to sign up through a brief survey at tx.ag/POLSMentorSurvey. This information helps the department thoughtfully pair mentors and students based on interests and experience. By participating, alumni can play a key role in supporting students as they explore career options and take their next professional steps.
