Dr. Riggs recently spent time in the Institute for Science Technology and Public Policy as a scholar in residence during her sabbatical. She quickly integrated into our team and became an invaluable part of the work that we do. We continue to work together on projects and proposals after her return to her on campus department. Dr. Riggs is an associate professor of Functional Genomics in the Department of Animal Science, at Texas A&M University. Her research focuses on analysis of gene, RNA, and protein function, relevant to the inheritance of production traits and disease susceptibility in beef cattle and other animals. Dr. Riggs served as founding director of the Whole Systems Genomics multidisciplinary research initiative that is now known as the Texas A&M Institute for Genome Sciences and Society. As chair of the Public Policy Committee of the American Society of Animal Science, she approaches research with policy implications in mind. She is committed to fostering better understanding of genomic technologies by diverse audiences and is actively engaged as an information resource for legislative members, committees, and multidisciplinary groups.
