Dr. Kent Portney of ISTPP explains the water-energy-food nexus and the importance of managing them together.

According to Dr. Kent Portney, Director of the Institute for Science, Technology, and Public Policy at Texas A&M University’s Bush School of Government & Public Service, in order to achieve greater sustainability, more efficient means of using these resources must be found, yet the Institute’s research determined that there is very little contact or interaction among water, energy, and food and agriculture agencies.  Since coordination is an important part of achieving greater resource efficiencies, he argues that explicit steps need to be taken to ensure that great communication takes place.
