Dr. Will Brown, director of Texas A&M’s Nonprofit Management Certificate program in the Bush School of Government and Public Service has been an integral part of the revitalization of the United Way Brazos Valley (UWBV). Brown is the chair of the UWBV board of directors for 2013-2014, and was instrumental in helping the organization recover from a funding crisis last year.

“It’s been a challenging time for this vital community agency,” Brown said, “but we’re definitely on a positive course now.” He noted that new financial management systems have helped the agency improve its budgeting and fundraising process, and that donors now have more confidence in UWBV’s ability to serve its partner agencies efficiently.

Brown said that the UWBV crisis was an opportunity to put into practice many of the principles he teaches in the nonprofit management program. “We know that competent and experienced leadership is one of the keys to a successful nonprofit agency. With the hiring of Andy Martin as our new president and CEO, and the experience and dedication of our board members, I’m confident we have the right team in place to ensure the UWBV’s success and continued ability to serve our community,” he added.
