COLLEGE STATION, TX (May 2024) – In the second issue of the Mosbacher Institute’s Pursuing Prosperity and Peace in the Levant White Paper Series, “Leveraging Economic Interdependence for Offshore Energy Developments,” Dr. Jose Morales-Arilla, Assistant Professor at the Bush School of Government and Public Service, explores the potential for energy interdependence in the Levant Basin Province (LBP). According to Morales-Arilla, geopolitical fragmentation constrains the development of offshore energy resources in the LBP, and a review of recent events in the region underscore the complications associated with maritime border disputes and the exploration, extraction, and transportation of cross-border resources. Morales-Arilla suggests that developing cooperative relationships in the development of oil and gas resources would benefit LBP countries and pave the way to fully realize its vast energy potential.
