All students in the Master of International Affairs degree program are required to complete at least two concentrations as part of their degree requirements. The Middle East concentration consists of three courses on the region, chosen from the courses listed below, with the proviso that one of the core courses must be among the three chosen courses:
• INTA 604 Contemporary Politics of the Middle East (Tabaar) – CORE COURSE
• INTA 664 The Middle East State System (Gause)
• INTA 671 The Political Economy of the Middle East – CORE COURSE
• INTA 674 US Foreign Policy in the Persian Gulf (Tabaar)
• INTA 675 Religion and Politics in Iran (Tabaar)
• INTA 676 International Politics of the Middle East (Gause) – CORE COURSE
• INTA 668 The Politics and History of the Arab Spring
• INTA 689 The Politics of Egypt
• INTA 689 Clientelism in the Developing World (Hamie)
There are also capstone courses (INTA 670) offered on the region that can be counted toward the concentration. In the recent past, Professor Tabaar has led capstones sponsored by the Department of State on issues related to Iran, and Dr. Hamie has led capstones sponsored by the United Nations and other agencies on issues of Syrian refugees, which have included research trips to Lebanon and Jordan.
