Pete McCanna, CEO of Baylor Scott & White Health—Texas’s largest nonprofit health system—will receive the 2025 McLane Leadership in Business Award on Thursday, September 4, at the Bush School’s Annenberg Conference Center. McCanna’s leadership in healthcare innovation and digital transformation will be featured in his public address. Registration is required by Wednesday, September 3.
Colleen Goggin, a recent Master of International Affairs graduate from the Bush School, presented her original research as a Texas Lyceum Fellow at the “Beyond Borders: Immigration & the Texas Economy” conference held on July 10, 2025, in Mexico City. Under the mentorship of Dr. Raymond Robertson—Director of the Mosbacher Institute—her study, “Trade, Wages, and Regional Growth: How Mexico’s Economic Geography Shapes Shared Opportunity,” illuminates how integration with global trade networks has contributed to higher wages and economic growth in Mexico’s northern regions, compared with more isolated southern states.
A new issue of The Takeaway, published by the Mosbacher Institute at the Bush School, presents five essential truths about tariffs. It underscores that tariffs act as hidden taxes on consumers, drive up costs for U.S. producers, and are not a viable substitute for income tax revenue. Additionally, the brief reveals that tariffs are more prevalent in economically disadvantaged countries, and that efforts to revive domestic jobs through tariffs tend to raise prices—with minimal long‑term economic benefit.
