How to Apply
- Start with the MPSA
- Apply to and be admitted to the MPSA program first.
- Apply to the PhD as a current MPSA student
- During your first semester or first year of the MPSA, depending on your start year, you apply to the PhD in Health Services Research.
- Begin the PhD the following fall
- Once you’re accepted, you begin the PhD the following fall and complete your remaining MPSA requirements as you transition.
When to Apply to the PhD
If you start the MPSA in an even-numbered year
You apply to the PhD after your first semester, by February 15. You’ll be notified before the end of the spring semester and begin the PhD the following fall. You complete your remaining MPSA requirements during your second year by deferring selected PhD courses.
If you start the MPSA in an odd-numbered year
You apply to the PhD after your first year, by November 1. You’ll be notified before the start of the spring semester and begin the PhD the following fall. Before core PhD courses begin, you may take PhD electives, where prerequisites allow, or recommended public health preparatory courses in the spring.
