Master of International Affairs & Master of Public Health (MIA-MPH) Combined Degree

Dual Application
This combined degree requires two applications, submitted in order. First, apply to the School of Public Health (MPH) through SOPHAS. Then, apply to the Bush School (MIA) through the MIA Supplemental Application. You must be admitted by both schools to enter the combined degree. Each school reviews its own portion and emails you about any missing items, so monitor the email address you used on both applications.
Who Can Apply
The MIA-MPH combined degree is open to applicants from all academic backgrounds who are eligible for graduate admission at Texas A&M and admissible to both programs.
- A bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent), earned or expected by the time of enrollment
- All undergraduate majors are accepted
- For degrees earned outside the United States, your degree must be considered equivalent to a 4-year US bachelor’s degree. International credentials are evaluated through the School of Public Health’s process (see Step 1 below).
- Admission to the combined degree requires acceptance by both the School of Public Health (MPH) and the Bush School (MIA). An application missing required items for either portion is considered incomplete and is not reviewed.
MPH Application Requirements
Submitted to the School of Public Health via SOPHASSubmit your MPH application to the school of Public Health through SOPHAS. This is the main application and carries most of your materials, including your resume, personal statement, recommendations, and transcript. The School of Public Health sets these requirements and reviews the MPH portion of your application, so follow their instructions and submit official documents through SOPHAS. The Bush School reuses most of these materials for your MIA portion, so you will not resubmit them. MIA Application Requirements
Submitted to the Bush School via the MIA Supplemental ApplicationAfter you submit your SOPHAS application, complete the MIA Supplemental Application for the Bush School. This short form asks MIA-specific questions and lets you add MIA-focused materials. There is no application fee. The Bush School will not review your MIA portion until your SOPHAS application and all required materials are submitted, so complete Step 1 first.

Answer the MIA program-specific questions and upload MIA program-specific materials to the MIA Supplemental Application and submit. There is no fee for the supplemental application.
Optional MIA-Focused Résumé Recommended if it better highlights your international experience.
If you would like to submit a resume that highlights your international experience, language skills, security clearance(s), and focus, upload it to the supplemental application. Otherwise, the resume you uploaded to your MPH application in SOPHAS will be used for review.

If Needed MIA Personal Statement Required only if your MPH statement does not address the MIA prompt.
If the statement you uploaded to SOPHAS does not address the MIA prompt below, upload one that does to the supplemental application. Type in 11 pt font, 1.5 spacing, and include your name, the title “Personal Statement,” and a page number on each page.
In 1,000 words or less, address:
- Your personal and professional goals for a career in international affairs and public health
- What inspired or influenced you to pursue a career in international affairs (relevant people, places, travel, courses, internships, or events)
- How earning the MIA-MPH will help you achieve your goals
- The value you bring to the MIA program specifically.
Optional GRE/GMAT Test Scores Not required; strongly encouraged for GPAs below 3.2. Average GRE: 308.
GRE/GMAT scores are not required for either program.
For the MIA portion, scores are strongly encouraged for applicants with a cumulative GPA below 3.2, and accepted from anyone who feels their scores complement a strong file or offset a concern. Our average GRE score for MIA applicants is 308.
The Bush School prefers the GRE over the GMAT. Scores must be within five years of your submission date, and the test should be taken at least three weeks before the deadline.

Application Deadlines
The MIA-MPH admits once per year, for fall entry only. The application opens September 1. Both applications and all materials must be complete by the final deadline. Applying by the priority funding deadline improves your funding consideration for the MIA portion of the degree.

After submitting SOPHAS, complete the MIA Supplemental Application for the Bush School.
After Submitting Your Application
Each school notifies you about its own portion, so monitor the email address you used on both applications. The School of Public Health emails you about missing MPH items, and the Bush School emails you about missing MIA items. Completed applications are reviewed by both programs, and admissions decisions are emailed on a rolling basis, starting in mid-February. If admitted, your email will include an official offer letter with the Bush School scholarship awarded for the MIA portion. You have until April 15 to accept or decline your offer.
Cost & Funding
Applying by the December priority deadline gives you consideration for nomination-based funding for the MIA portion; applications completed after that date are still considered for a competitive merit-based Bush School scholarship. Funding for the MPH portion is handled by the School of Public Health.
