Scowcroft Institute of International Affairs Army Fellowship Program
As part of the United States Army War College's Senior Service College Fellowship Program, the Scowcroft Institute hosts officers as Fellows for one academic year. This program promotes cooperative academic exchanges between selected United States Army officers and civilian educational and teaching facilities. The Army Fellowship Program at the Scowcroft Institute is designed to promote research on topics of strategic relevance to the army and the Scowcroft Institute, to increase the knowledge and awareness of military affairs among Bush School and Texas A&M University faculty and students, to foster cooperation and intellectual exchange between the institute and the army, and to enhance the strategic thinking and research skills of the mid-career army officers selected to take part in the institute's fellowship program.
While in residence at the Scowcroft Institute, army Fellows will complete a major research project on a topic of strategic relevance to the army and the institute; participate in formal coursework at the Bush School and in other Texas A&M University departments; attend lectures, workshops and conferences hosted by the Scowcroft Institute; bring in outside experts to lecture on military affairs and strategy; and engage students and faculty by giving talks and lectures about their research interests and career experiences. They will, in short, become part of the Scowcroft Institute's burgeoning community of international relations scholars, students, and practitioners.
Two army officers have been selected as the inaugural class of the Scowcroft Institute Army Fellowship Program. Their terms of residence begin in August of 2009.
Colonel Thomas D. (Dewitt) Mayfield III
Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey E. Pounding
