The changing role of presidential spouses will be discussed by a panel moderated by former ABC News White House correspondent Ann Compton at Texas A&M University on Nov. 14.

The event, part of the ConocoPhillips White House Lecture Series, will be at the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center on the Texas A&M campus, beginning with a reception at 6 p.m., followed by the program at 7 p.m.

The panel will include Anita McBride, former chief of staff to First Lady Laura Bush; Lissa Muscatine, former communications director to First Lady Hillary Clinton; and Lauren Wright, author of On Behalf of the President: Presidential Spouses and White House Communication Strategy Today.

The program is presented by the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation and the Mosbacher Institute for Trade, Economics, and Public Policy at the Bush School of Government and Public Service.

The event is open to the public free of charge, but space is limited so registration is required by Nov. 7 by phone at (979) 862-2251 or email at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

A pioneer in her field, Compton was the first woman assigned to cover the White House on network television in 1974.  Her career with ABC News spanned seven presidents and 10 presidential campaigns over 41 years.

McBride served as an assistant to President George W. Bush and chief of staff to First Lady Laura Bush, supporting U.S. foreign policy objectives in human rights, women’s empowerment, global health and education, and human freedom.

Muscatine served as director of communications to First Lady Hillary Clinton and later as deputy assistant to President Bill Clinton.  Most recently, she served as director of speechwriting to President Barak Obama and as senior advisor to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Wright’s book, On Behalf of the President, is about the increasing political importance of the president’s spouse and the tremendous responsibility to communicate the president’s message and shape the president’s public image.
