Dr. Angela Bies, assistant professor at the Bush School, has been selected as a member of the new state Task Force for Strengthening Nonprofit Capacity. The task force was established by the Texas Legislature in 2009, and is charged with studying the current capacity of faith- and community-based organizations and making recommendations on how to strengthen their ability to provide services to Texans in need. Their work is to be completed by September 2011.

Bies’s selection was announced by Thomas Suehs, Executive Commissioner of the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC).  The task force will work with HHSC and the OneStar Foundation to conduct public hearings throughout Texas. OneStar supports the nonprofit sector and its stakeholders through initiatives that increase civic engagement, research, rigorous evaluation and nonprofit organizational excellence

In addition to her research into training and organizational development in nonprofit and nongovernmental organizations, Bies has also held executive positions and consulted for such organizations as the U.S. Peace Corps, the United Way, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
