Professors Layne and Thornton meet with Dr. Iulian Fota

On 13 July, Professor Christopher Layne and Dr. Gabriela Thornton met with Dr.Iulian Fota, National Security Adviser to Romanian President Traian Basescu.  Dr. Fota invited Drs. Layne and Thornton to meet with him to discuss various European security issues, including NATO expansion and the Black Sea.  On 15 July, Professor Layne delivered a lecture on the Future of U.S. Foreign Policy to students at Romania’s National Intelligence Academy.  On 16 July Drs. Layne and Thornton met with faculty and administrators at the National School for Political and Administrative Studies in Bucharest to discuss possible future collaboration between the National School and the Bush School, and also participation in an upcoming conference on Black Sea Security to be held in Bucharest from 19-21 November.  Present at this meeting for the National School were Dr. Paul Dobrescu, the National School’s Dean, and Professor Vasile Secares and Professsor Mihail Ionescu.  Professor Layne also gave a lecture on the End of the Pax Americana to faculty and graduate students at the National School.
