ISTPP Completes Air Quality Report and Presentation to Funders

March 27, 2011

The Institute for Science, Technology and Public Policy (ISTPP) has completed its sixth follow-up report on the Drive Clean Across Texas campaign and ISTPP research associate, Liu Shi, traveled to Austin to present the results to the project’s funders, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Drive Clean Across Texas is a public awareness campaign designed to educate the public about air quality issues in Texas and disseminate information about ways to reduce air pollution from vehicles. The campaign is one effort by the state to assist Texas cities in meeting U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) air quality standards.

ISTPP conducted a survey in August 2001 to provide baseline information for the campaign on what Texans knew and believed about air pollution and air quality issues. Following implementation of the campaign, ISTPP has conducted surveys in 2002, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008, and 2010 to measure the effectiveness of the campaign, as well as changes in public attitudes toward air quality issues and changes in behaviors impacting air quality.
