Bush School Dean Mark Welsh has announced that Dr. Andrew Morriss, Dean of the University’s School of Innovation, or I-School, and Vice President for Entrepreneurship and Economic Development, has joined the faculty of the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University.

“Dr. Morriss’ remarkable national and international reputation and experience will be significant assets to the Bush School, as will his leadership in his new position at the I-School,” Welsh said

Morriss holds a PhD in economics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in addition to a JD earned at the University of Texas at Austin. He was most recently Dean of the Texas A&M School of Law, where he fostered leadership in fields such as intellectual property law and moved the formerly unranked school to the top 100 law school rankings of US News & World Report.

With a long record of innovation and an entrepreneurial spirit, Morriss will lead the I-School in creating an environment where students can work together on problem-solving initiatives. As a virtual school, the I-School is designed to transcend traditional college boundaries and foster innovation and creativity across academic disciplines.

“We have 68,000 creative individuals in the A&M student body; we just have to turn them loose on solving problems,” Morriss said. “I’m confident that some Bush School students will be part of the collaborations with faculty experts that will emerge in many disciplines. I hope that the I-School can create a place of ‘intellectual connections,’ where students from across the University—regardless of their respective fields of study—can meet and collaborate with others who share a common interest in addressing a specific problem or idea,” he added.
