Bush School Wins 8 Communication Awards

The Bush School’s Office of Communications and External Relations recently won four awards in the CASE District IV competition for marketing and communications, institutional identity, diversity and inclusion, and student recruitment. The communications office also won four awards from the Houston International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), including three Awards of Excellence, the highest level award given.  The office was recognized in the categories of internal communication; marketing, advertising, and brand communication; communication management; and communication skills.

The CASE Platinum award for marketing and communications was given for the School’s “20 Years of Educating Public Servants and the Bush School.” The CASE Silver Accolade award for institutional identity was presented for the School’s Discussion Series, “What’s Next?” which presents prominent scholars from the Bush School and Texas A&M discussing pressing national and international issues such as the Iran nuclear deal and post-conflict reconstruction. Designed to address critical issues in real time, the series has not only increased interaction between faculty and students, it has also given community members additional opportunities to learn from Bush School experts. The “What’s Next?” initiative also received an IABC award of merit in the community relations category.

CASE Silver Accolade awards were also received for the School’s diversity and inclusion efforts in two categories—institutional opportunity and inclusion, and student recruitment. 

The School’s diversity initiative included the creation of a Diversity and Inclusion committee made up of faculty, staff and students who meet regularly to monitor and assess the School’s diversity efforts as well as to develop programs and events designed to inform students of the importance of diversity in the field of public service.

A 30-second video, “A Call to Public Service,” features faculty, staff, and students, and is designed to raise awareness of the institution, inform prospective students how the Bush School can support their career goals in public service, and the need for principled leaders in public and international affairs.

Houston IABC Awards of Excellence were given for the Bush School’s diversity and inclusion initiative in the internal communication category, and the new ranking campaign was recognized in the category of marketing, advertising and brand communication. The third excellence award was presented in the communications skills/special events category which honored the School’s 20 years of educating public servants.

CASE, the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, is a national organization providing resource development, training programs, and marketing services in the areas of alumni relations, communications, and philanthropy.

IABC is a global network of communication professionals from private and public sectors who are committed to improving organizational effectiveness through strategic communication. Established in 1970, IABC serves over 14,000 members in more than 70 countries for networking, career development and personal growth. The IABC Houston chapter is the fourth largest in the world.
