Holiday Giving at the Bush School

December 22, 2017

The Dean’s Holiday Brunch, a festive celebration for faculty, staff, and students at the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University, was filled with brunch, ugly sweaters, laughter, and holiday cheer. It was also filled with giving.

This event was no exception to the Bush School’s consistent emphasis on public service as guests brought toys to donate to the Bush School Toy Drive this holiday season. Providing gifts to local families in need is one of many ways the Bush School community gives back to the larger Bryan-College Station community. Nearly fifty toys were donated to the cause.

Additional holiday giving efforts included a supply drive for Ronald McDonald House Charities sponsored by the Bush School Public Service Organization. Students donated eight cases of water, three boxes of toys that included coloring books and puzzles, and three boxes of food to the charity.

For those in attendance at the event, an ugly sweater competition was held as well as a guessing game in which guests could guess how many pieces of candy were in multiple jars for a chance to win the candy as a prize. The contests fostered a friendly rivalry between attendees as they showed up in their best ugly sweaters and put their guessing skills to the test.

“During finals, it’s great to be able to slow down one morning and talk with faculty, staff, and students about their semester and their plans for the break,” said second-year Bush School student Drew Coughlin. “The food, like last year, was delicious, and the atmosphere was festive. Giving back has always been important for me, and this was an opportunity to do that. Since the holidays are my favorite season, I think the breakfast is my favorite annual Bush School event.”

This event, held in the Presidential Conference Center, was a way for members of the Bush School community to take a break from hectic schedules and enjoy a cup of coffee as they reminisced about the past year at the Bush School.
