SPSA Vedlitz Award Focuses on Gulf Coast Research

September 26, 2016

Arnold Vedlitz

An endowment to recognize US Gulf Coast research has been created by Dr. Arnold Vedlitz of the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University.  The $400 annual research award, and accompanying plaque, will be awarded by the Southern Political Science Association (SPSA) and is intended to recognize environmental research in the American South, with particular consideration for the Gulf Coast area’s environmental challenges. It will be presented annually to the author of a seminal book or article on the topic. Any books, articles, or proposals on environmental policy research in the southern US will be considered for the inaugural Arnold Vedlitz Award, regardless of publication date.

Dr. Vedlitz hails from Shreveport, Louisiana, and holds the Bob Bullock Chair in Government and Public Service at the Bush School. Vedlitz is renowned in his field for his extensive research in science, technology, the environment, and public policy.  He has a special interest in the US Gulf Coast region.

“The Gulf Coast is a vital region both economically and environmentally,” said Vedlitz. “My hope is that this award will encourage scholars to study the area and its unique environmental challenges.”

Nominations may be submitted by October 10 to Jamie Monogan via e-mail (.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)).  The inaugural award will be given at the SPSA annual meeting this coming January, 2017, in New Orleans.
