Bush School Softball Team Wins Against LBJ

April 29, 2014

Bush Students at the Dillo cup

The Bush School softball team – the Bushwhackers - came away victorious this weekend against the LBJ School in Austin, bringing home bragging rights and the “Dillo” trophy after a two-year absence.  Both the students and alumni had close matchups that resulted in hitting and pitching duels for both games.  The alumni game started at 11:00 a.m. and featured ten Bush School alumni representing classes from 2002 to 2013 and two staff.  The Bushwhackers started strong, scoring seven runs in the first inning; but the LBJ team fought back to tie the game by the seventh inning with some well-placed hits. In the final inning, the Bush School took advantage of walks and won by a score of 10-7. The Bush School leads the alumni series 5-2.

The student game followed at 12:30 p.m.  The LBJ team started strong, taking an eight to nothing lead. But the Bushwhackers played some tough defense; and when the LBJ pitcher hit a rough patch and walked a number of our players, the Bushwhackers came back to within one, with LBJ leading 8-7 by the fourth. In the fifth inning the momentum shifted, with the Bush School taking advantage of more pitching struggles and some timely hits by a number of players. They took a 14-8 lead and never looked back. A few runs in each inning by both teams kept the game close, but the Bushwhackers pulled out the 19-16 win and brought back the “Dillo” to the Bush School at Texas A&M University!  The Bush School leads the student series 8-7.  Played annually, next year’s game will be played in College Station.
