The Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University is now offering a new graduate certificate program designed to give students the skills and background knowledge needed to communicate effectively in the rapidly changing world of global communication.

Some forty-five executive students were on campus in June for the residency portion of their Executive Master of Public Service and Administration (EMPSA) program. The program is designed for individuals working in full-time professional careers and delivers high-quality and high-impact coursework online.

The desperate longing to escape terrorism, political unrest, or civil war—most recently in Middle Eastern countries—is often cited as one of the primary reasons for migrating to European Union countries. As the local environment becomes unsafe and less secure, refugees are “pushed” toward migration, despite the uncertainty and perils of the journey. The heart-rending stories of families taking unbelievable risks to reach safe havens in Europe and the increase in European refugee migration continue to be a major challenge for many EU countries.

To that end, an education in public service requires not only a strong academic foundation but also real-world experience, hands-on work in the field.

Natural disasters or conflicts around the world have increased the need to assist those whose lives have been disrupted or, in many cases, destroyed. Eighteen students at the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University will now be aiding that effort as they design and prepare proposals for the International Rescue Committee (IRC) to improve programs and help the organization apply for much-needed grants to support its work.
