Dr. Valerie Hudson, a professor at the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University, recently received the Distinguished Service Award for her contributions to promote women’s empowerment worldwide. The award was presented by the LDS International Society.

In the Mosbacher Institute’s latest issue of The Takeaway, Dr. James Griffin identifies three common misconceptions about groundwater and references science and economics to refute them. In the article, Dr. Griffin argues that a loss in artesian pressure is not indicative of a similar loss in water storage; that pumping limits should consider the size of an aquifer’s total storage, not just its recharge rate; and that the same basic economic laws of supply and demand apply to water as they do to other resources.

Bush School Dean Mark Welsh has announced that Dr. Andrew Morriss, Dean of the University’s School of Innovation, or I-School, and Vice President for Entrepreneurship and Economic Development, has joined the faculty of the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University.

There are many challenges associated with beginning a business in a conflict region, and Dr. Leslie Ruyle is well aware of those challenges. People living in regions of conflict still need to make a living, and young people especially need to see opportunities for their future that don’t include fighting. Ruyle is interested in supporting communities in areas usually neglected for entrepreneurship, especially those in conflict regions with limited roads and electricity options next to areas of conservation concern through her work at Texas A&M University.

Dr. Kent E. Portney and Dr. Ann Bowman have been awarded one of the first “Texas A&M Triads for Transformation,” or T3 grants, along with Dr. Sierra Woodruff in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning.
