Ten students from the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University, along with five students from the University’s Mays Business School and Department of Economics, were guests of the American Bar Association (ABA) at the ABA Section of Taxation Midyear Meetings held January 29-31 in Houston.

On January 13 and 14, Dr. Joshua Shifrinson, an assistant professor in the Department of International Affairs at the Bush School of Government and Public Service, Texas A&M University, took part in the Bush Library’s High School Days Program, speaking to students from Bryan and A&M Consolidated high schools.  The title of his talk was “The Cold War: The Long Peace and Its Long Shadow.”

Robert H. Allen, distinguished community-minded businessman and long-time supporter of the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University, passed away on January 10, 2015.


January 30, 2015

On January 26, Dr. Nancy Dickey and her daughter Liz conducted a Conversation in Leadership seminar as part of the Bush School’s Brown Bag Speaker Series. The program was sponsored by the School’s Public Service Leadership Program.


January 29, 2015

Christopher Layne, University Distinguished Professor of International Affairs and Robert M. Gates Chair in National Security, at the Bush School of Government and Public Service, Texas A&M University, has been elected to the Governing Council of the International Studies Association’s (ISA) International Security Studies Section.  Professor Layne begins his three-year term in February during the Association’s Annual Convention in New Orleans.

Dr. Kalena Cortes, an assistant professor in the Department of Public Service and Administration at the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University, has won the 2014 Richard A. Musgrave Prize for her paper “Ranking Up by Moving Out: The Effect of the Texas Top 10% Plan on Property Values.”


January 28, 2015

The Mosbacher Institute for Trade, Economics and Public Policy in the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University, will present the annual Bank of America Volunteerism program February 3, featuring Neal Keny-Guyer, CEO of Mercy Corps, a leading international humanitarian and development organization.  Bush School Dean Ryan Crocker is a member of the Mercy Corps board of directors.

January 16, 2015

In the fall of 2014, nine students from the Bush School of Government and Public Service, Texas A&M University, traveled to Germany to present research findings to their capstone client, Bosch Shifting. The capstone, entitled “Looking Eastward: Enhancing Trilateral Relations: Germany, the US, and China,” was coordinated by faculty member Dr. Gabriela Marin Thornton.  Thornton received a grant of 13,100 euros from the Bosch Stiftung to fund the capstone work.  This capstone project was the first Bush School capstone with an international client.


December 18, 2014

A new economic and policy analysis concludes that the hydraulic fracturing (HF) or “fracking” being done in Texas is adding to the state’s overuse of its water resources, but is only part of the state’s “Texas-sized” water problem.  A recent study conducted by students at the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University has been summarized in “The Takeaway,” published by the School’s Mosbacher Institute for Trade, Economics, and Public Policy.


December 12, 2014

Students and one alum from the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University are launching a youth empowerment program in Rwanda called the Youth Ag-education Innovation Cooperative (YAIC).  They have partnered with WeFeedUs and Building Bridges with Rwanda (BBR) to implement the program, which will begin in September 2015.
