On March 8, 2016, the Scowcroft Institute of International Affairs at the Bush School of Government and Public Service will host Colonel (R) Andrew Budd, head of the Defense Capabilities Section, Defense Policy Directorate, NATO. Colonel Budd will give a talk entitled “NATO’s View of Europe.” The event will take place from 12:20 p.m. to 1:20 p.m. at the George Bush Presidential Library.

In early February, students from the Bush School of Government and Public Service and the Texas A&M Law School travelled to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, as a part of a year-long capstone research project studying trade barriers in North America and the effects of “Buy America” legislation.

On Thursday, March 3, 2016, the Mosbacher Institute for Trade, Economics, and Public Policy, will host a discussion titled, “Restoring Trust: Financial Crises and Regulatory Responses in the Bush Era and Beyond.” The event will feature the Honorable Richard C. Breeden, former chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission and former assistant to the president for issues analysis, and will include a conversation with Donald E. Powell, former chairman of the FDIC.

On March 1, 2016, the Scowcroft Institute of International Affairs at the Bush School of Government and Public Service, Texas A&M University, will host the seminar, “Europe’s Refugee Crisis.” The seminar is cosponsored by the European Union Center. Speaking at the event will be Erik Kirschbaum, an international correspondent for Reuters in Berlin, Germany.

Sara Houstoun Lindsey, noted Houston philanthropist and devoted supporter of Texas A&M University, passed away in Houston on February 16, 2016. The generosity of Sara and her husband, John, to Texas A&M spanned more than fifty years. Their numerous gifts to Texas A&M included three faculty chairs; nine scholarships; and a $3 million commitment to the University’s first comprehensive campaign, Capturing the Spirit.

Many news outlets have reported on the “Pink Tax,” the higher prices charged for items targeted for women compared to similar items packaged for men.  Dr. Lori Taylor, an economist and Director of the Mosbacher Institute for Trade, Economics and Public Policy at the Bush School of Government at Texas A&M University, says that at least in part, it really is a tax.

On Thursday, February 18, 2016, the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University will host the “Symposium on the Gulf War and the Liberation of Kuwait: Reflections after a Quarter Century” from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center. The evening event will bring together leading scholars, journalists, diplomats, and students of international affairs to discuss the events surrounding the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in August 1990, the country’s liberation in February 1991, and lessons learned in the twenty-five years since the conflict.
