The Bush School chapter of the Alexander Hamilton Society (AHS), a university study organization, has begun its second year as an active campus organization. Based in Washington DC, the AHS is a nonpartisan organization dedicated to promoting constructive debate on contemporary issues in foreign, economic, and national security policy. Membership in the Bush School chapter of AHS is open to anyone who shares the principles of the organization or would like to participate in the organization’s events.

The consolidation of school districts in Texas’ five largest counties would be a costly mistake, according to a study co-written by researchers at Texas A&M University that found the plan would raise costs and not improve student performance.

Distinguished scholars, diplomats and government officials from the U.S. and Europe will come together at Texas A&M University to celebrate and discuss the fall of the Berlin Wall, one of the most dramatic and far-reaching events in world history. The Bush School of Government and Public Service will host a conference entitled “The 25th Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall and the Liberation of Eastern Europe” on Nov. 10.

Dean Ryan Crocker has announced the appointment of Ms. Cindy Raisor as lecturer and director of the Bush School’s Writing Program.  Cindy earned her BA and MA in English at Texas A&M with an emphasis on rhetoric, composition, and linguistics.

Prof. Valerie Hudson, who holds the George H.W. Bush Chair in the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University, has been honored with the Distinguished Scholar Award from the Foreign Policy Analysis Section of the International Studies Association (ISA) for 2015.  The award is given to those who have made an “outstanding contribution to the field of foreign policy analysis through research and service.”

In January 2015, Dr. Ann Bowman, who holds the Bush School’s Hazel Davis and Robert Kennedy Endowed Chair in Government and Public Service, will become president of the Southern Political Science Association (SPSA), one of the oldest and largest political science professional organizations in the United States. She currently serves as president-elect and has been a member of the Association since 1979.

Dr. Joshua Shifrinson has won the Lucian Pye Award for the outstanding PhD thesis given annually by the Department of Political Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Shifrinson earned his PhD at MIT in 2013 and is an assistant professor in the IA program at the Bush School.
