New research published in The Takeaway, a policy brief produced by the Mosbacher Institute for Trade, Economics, and Public Policy at the Texas A&M University Bush School of Government and Public Service, found that while uninsured rates in Texas declined from 2012 to 2016, the state still leads the nation in health uninsured rates.

Five years ago, Bryce Watson, ’18, was living in China teaching English to factory workers’ children. Two weeks ago, he moved to Tijuana, Mexico, to work on his startup in preparation for the product’s full launch in August, the idea for which he had while living in China.

Dr. Xinsheng Liu, Research Scientist and Assistant Director of the Institute for Science, Technology and Public Policy at the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University, was recently named a Changjiang Scholar by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and the Li Ka Shing Foundation through a highly competitive process.

After a rigorous selection process, the Scowcroft Institute of International Affairs announced the selection of two Senior Fellows, Dr. Elizabeth Cameron and Dr. Rebecca Katz. During their time with the Institute, they will focus on research and will both be a part of the pandemic preparedness policy program. Each will produce a white paper based on their findings.

Researchers at Texas A&M University are among four research teams awarded a total of $2 million to study gene drive and gene editing technologies. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) made the awards. Other institutions participating in the NIFA program are the University of Florida, Iowa State University, and the Santa Fe Institute of Science.

Previously housed at Cleveland State University, NACC will soon move to the Bush School following a proposal by Dr. Will Brown, professor and director of the Center for Nonprofits and Philanthropy at the Bush School.

Barbara Bush was beloved by students at the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M. Her frequent interactions with students were often the subject of conversations at the School. To commemorate her legacy and her devotion to service, a group of students at the School raised nearly $2,800 that will go toward education and literacy, two causes the former First Lady championed.
