Dr. Joe Cerami Chairs Roundtable Discussion
Dr. Joe Cerami chaired a roundtable discussion on “Teaching Leadership for Public Service,” at John Jay College of the City University of New York, for the Second Annual Northeast Conference on Public Administration (NECoPA 2011). The roundtable included James Abruzzo, the co-founder of the Institute for Ethical Leadership at the Rutgers Business School (RBS), and Jeanne Marie Col of John Jay College and formerly the United Nations Senior Interregional Adviser in Governance and Public Administration. The Conference theme was on Building Trust and Confidence in the Public Service.

Ethical Leadership and Nonprofit Management: James Abruzzo, Rutgers Business School
James Abruzzo is the co-founder of the Institute for Ethical Leadership at the Rutgers Business School (RBS). He oversees the Institute for Ethical Leadership Consulting Group and is an internationally recognized nonprofit management consultant, researcher and educator. Formerly Managing Director of the Nonprofit Practice at AT Kearney, he currently serves as Executive Vice President and Managing Director of the Nonprofit Practice of DHR International. He is on the faculty of Rutgers Business School and additionally, Mr. Abruzzo serves on the faculty of the Department of Economics, University of Bologna and is a frequent guest lecturer at the Freie Universitat of Berlin. The author of Jobs in Arts and Media Management, Mr. Abruzzo has served on many nonprofit boards, including the Board of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Foundation and Dieu Donné Papermill, Inc.

International Leader Development: Jeanne-Marie Col, John Jay College, CUNY, and the United Nations
Jeanne Marie Col is Associate Professor of Emergency Management and Public Administration. She earned a Ph.D. Political Science, University of South Carolina, Columbia, South Carolina with specializations in Public Administration and International Development. From 1990 – 2003, served as United Nations Senior Interregional Adviser in Governance and Public Administration. Served as Team Leader of the Kuwait Country Review; Georgia Country Evaluation of the Presidency and Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Performance Improvement through Coordination, Communications and Information Technology; Cambodia Governance, Democracy and Human Rights; and Gender Analysis of Advancement in Civil Service System in Thailand.

Educating Principled, Emerging Leaders in Schools of Public and International Affairs: Joseph R. Cerami, Bush School of Texas A&M University
Joe Cerami joined the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University as a Senior Lecturer in National Security in August 2001 after a 30-year Army career. He was named the founding Director of the Bush School’s Public Service Leadership Program in 2002. He completed a Doctorate in Public Administration at Penn State‘s School of Public Affairs. Joe is co-editor of the Army War College Guide to Strategy (2001), The Interagency and Counterinsurgency Warfare (2007), Leadership and National Security Reform (2008), and Rethinking Leadership and “Whole of Government” National Security Reform (2010) all published by the Army War College’s Strategic Studies Institute. His article on “Rethinking Civil-Military Coordination for Humanitarian and other Complex Operations,” was published in the Public Administration Review (Vol. 70, No. 2) March-April 2010.
