Lindquist Co-Authors Cross-Cutting, Interdisciplinary Paper in Systems
Dynamics Review
Dr. Eric Lindquist, ISTPP associate director and associate research scientist, is co-author of an article forthcoming in Systems Dynamics Review, the journal of the Systems Dynamics Society. Lead author for the article, entitled "Science, Engineering, and Technology in the Policy Process for Mitigating Natural-Societal Risk," was Timothy R.B. Taylor, a recent Ph.D. graduate in civil engineering at Texas A&M University, and currently assistant professor in civil engineering at the University of Kentucky. Other co-authors are David N. Ford (TAMU civil engineering) and Shari A. Yvon-Lewis (TAMU oceanography). Dr. Lindquist served on Dr. Taylor's graduate committee, and Dr. Taylor was also a student in Dr. Lindquist's PSAA 671 course, Science and Technology Policy. The article applies a system dynamics perspective to the stratospheric ozone depletion case and identifies leverage points for domain/scientific experts to influence policy makers in addressing risks posed by changes in the natural system. The paper also won the prestigious Dana Meadows Best Student Paper award at the 2009 International Systems Dynamics Conference.
