Sammy Zahran

Dr. Zahran is an assistant professor at Colorado State University. Prior to joining the faculty at Colorado State, Dr. Zahran was a post-doctoral research scientist with the Institute for Science, Technology, and Public Policy. Dr. Zahran is also a Research Fellow with the Environmental Planning and Sustainability Research Unit in the Hazard Reduction and Recovery Center at Texas A&M University and a Faculty Fellow with the Hazard Reduction and Recovery Center.
Dr. Zahran's recent publications include "Rationality, Inequity, and Civic Vitality: The Distribution of Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Installations in the Southeast," Society and Natural Resources (2008); "Social Vulnerability, Natural, and Built Environments: Flood Casualties in Texas," Disasters (2008); "Identifying the Impact of the Built Environment on Flood Damage in Texas," Disasters (2008); "The Rising Costs of Floods: Examining the Impact of Planning and Development Decisions on Property Damage in Florida," Journal of the American Planning Association (2007); and "Risk, Stress, and Capacity: Explaining Metropolitan Commitment to Climate Protection," Urban Affairs Review (2007).
Dr. Zahran received his Ph.D. in sociology in 2004 from the University of Tennessee and his bachelor of arts in political science from the University of Windsor in 1995.
