Dr. Brody holds a joint appointment as associate professor in the departments of Marine Sciences and Landscape Architecture and Urban planning at Texas A&M University. He holds the George P. Mitchell '40 Chair in Sustainable Coasts and directs the Center for Texas Beaches and Shores and the Environmental Planning and Sustainability Research Unit at the Galveston campus. Dr. Brody is conducting research and teaching in the areas of environmental planning, coastal management, climate change adaptation, and dispute resolution.

Dr. Brody has had many articles published in peer-reviewed journals, including "Examining the Relationship between Physical Vulnerability and Public Perceptions of Global Climate Change," Environment and Behavior (2008); "A Spatial Analysis of Local Climate Change Policy in the United States: Risk, Stress, and Opportunity," Landscape and Urban Planning (2008); "The Rising Costs of Floods: Examining the Impact of Planning and Development Decisions on Property Damage in Florida," Journal of the American Planning Association (2007); "Identifying the Impact of the Built Environment on Flood Damage in Texas," Disasters (2007); "Planning at the Urban Fringe: An Examination of the Factors Influencing Nonconforming Development Patterns in Southern Florida," Environment and Planning B (2006); and "Exploring the Mosaic of Perceptions for Water Quality across Watersheds in San Antonio, Texas," Landscape and Urban Planning (2005). Recently, he published the book Ecosystem Planning in Florida: Solving Regional Problems Through Local Decision Making.

Dr. Brody serves as principal investigator or co-principal investigator on a number of research grants, including A Coastal Communities Planning Atlas for Decision Makers and Local Residents (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Sea Grant Award); Development of a Land Use Change Early Warning System (U.S. National Park Service); and Modeling Watershed Flooding and Adaptive Flood Management: An Integrative Plan for Research, Teaching, and Learning (National Science Foundation). In 2008, he received the award for best paper in the Journal of the American Planning Association. In 2007, he received the award for outstanding research in the College of Architecture at Texas A&M University; and in 2004, he was given the College of Architecture's Outstanding Achievement Award.

Dr. Brody received his Ph.D. in city and regional planning from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 2001; a master of science degree in resource policy and behavior from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1996; a graduate diploma in environmental studies from the University of Adelaide, Australia in 1995; and a bachelor of arts degree in environmental studies and anthropology from Bowdoin College in 1992.
