Kenneth Ashworth
Visiting Scholar
Dr. Ashworth attended The University of Texas at Austin, receiving his Ph.D. in History and Philosophy of Education in 1969, having earlier completed a Master's degree in Public Administration at Syracuse University. From 1976 to 1997, Ashworth served as Commissioner of Higher Education for the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. He also worked as the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs for The University of Texas System, and the Executive Vice President and Professor of Education at The University of Texas at San Antonio. Dr. Ashworth is the author of American Higher Education in Decline, Scholars and Statesmen: Higher Education and Government Policy, and is co-author with Norman Hackerman of Conversations on the Uses of Science and Technology. His most recent book, Caught Between the Dog and the Fireplug or How to Survive Public Service was published in 2001 by the Georgetown University Press. Dr. Ashworth is an Adjunct Professor at the Bush School and the College of Education at Texas A&M University. He also teaches at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas.
