Position Title: Dean

Direct Supervisor: Provost and Executive Vice President

Employees Supervised: 100+ Staff, teaching and research faculty, and graduate assistants

Required Education and Experience: Ph.D., other terminal degree, or equivalent experience. Attainment of national prominence in education, government, business, or military.

Preferred Education and Experience: Combined familiarity and experience in both academic and professional spheres.

Required special knowledge, abilities, and skills: Evidence of strategic planning, communication, and resource allocation skills to build a preeminent educational institution.

Preferred special knowledge, abilities, and skills: Evidence of successful leadership skills to build a preeminent professional school of public service and international affairs.

Other requirements or other factors: Ability to work cooperatively with others; ability to help institution forge visions, set goals, marshal resources, recruit talent, and establish consensus for the way ahead.

Preferred other requirements or other factors: Strong record of external fundraising.

General Summary: The Dean serves as the Chief Executive Officer and Senior Administrator of the Bush School and provides leadership, management, and stewardship of its academic, research, administrative, logistic, student and faculty, budget and programming, centers and institutes, and development operations. As the senior administrator of a university academic unit, the Dean reports directly to the University Provost.
